As a DM this year I was bumped up to BE for TATL flight after mech delay in departing ORF to ATL caused a missed connection to CDG. That was after calling the Diamond line to discuss options.

I had the same thing happen to me, while still an FO, on a CLE-JFK-TXL routing where the CLE-JFK segment was delayed 2 hours, which made me miss my JFK-TXL routing. Redcoat agent in CLE put me in J on AF JFK-CDG and then in full Y from CDG-TXL.
Being DM wouldn't have got me anything better than that.
