Guanaja airport. Dirt strip and a grass shack. Arrived by boat. There are no roads on Guanaja. Pre-dawn flight so dressed in shorts and tee. No bug repellant because pre-dawn.
The boat left, walked to airport. No aircrew, no personnel at all. Our Otter was covered in dew. A Cessna with a broken landing gear was in the middle of the runway.
The sun started to come up. The mosquitos on one side and the no-see-ums on the other side said, "Yum!" Tore into luggage for bug repellant and water. Not enough of either.
Eventually another Cessna arrived with a part for the broken Cessna. Spectacular landing on half-of the strip. Rolled repaired Cessna off the strip, and boat brought our aircrew.
By this time I was so bit-up by the bugs I had an allergic reaction. I remain sensitive to insect bites to this day, 10 years later.
