On PDX-IAH I literally got hit in the head when the man in 1A reclined his seat. I was getting something out of my backpack and he flipped back so quickly and so far, it bonked me on the head.

Is it just these 737-900s or has anyone else noticed how little space we have when the person in front of us reclines all the way? I love my 2A seat, but I just tried to switch all my seats to 1A for my flights to Hawaii this weekend. Maybe I'll get through without a bump on the head!
First of all, bummer to be your husband... alas, I am not a relationship counselor, so I'll refrain from further comment.

But back on topic, yeah, the new seats in the 737-9ER and retrofit on the regular -900s are a bit weird. That's for both first and Y. At least the Y seats are an improvement over the cardboard-covered bleachers that CO has flown in their 737NG's forever.
But yeah, they're a bit strange. I took the ANC-PDX-IAH flights just last week, and it was my first time on the 739 in over a year (always do the 753 via SEA). I noticed the recline angle, just as you have.
