1. If the hotel refunds some amount (usually $0.75) for refusing paper delivery, I always refuse at check-in.

2. If the paper just shows up, I will only read it if it is the NY Times, a foreign paper in a language I understand (it's fun to stay linguistically proficient and see what is going on in the rest of the world), or a local paper (for the local scoop & classifieds-- never know where you might find that barn beauty Austin Healey). I do not read USA Today, even if it is placed in front of me at no cost.

3. I rarely purchase newspapers to read. The only time I read them is when they are free and I have nothing else to do. Therefore, in my case, you could say that the free papers in hotels are being read by otherwise non-readers, except when the paper itself sucks (i.e., USA Today).

Sadly, even the USA Today puzzles are too easy to bother with.
