A pregnant woman on LX wants your F window seat... Do you give it up?

.

I had an interesting situation on a flight from ORD-ZRH on LX in F.

I was sitting in the F lounge waiting for my flight, when an attendant walked right up to me and said: "Mr. Macabus, I see you're sitting in 2A."

"Yes, that's right," I said nonchalantly.

"Well, we have a pregnant woman flying to ZRH and she really wants to be in the window seat," the attendant said, as if God had just spoken.

"Umm, the flight is booked 5 of 8 in First class," I say hesitantly. "There are plenty of seats."

The attendant gives me lopsided sneer. "Well, she's pregnant," the woman says defiantly. "And she really wants to sit in 2A."

I have never felt so awkward in a travel situation.

"I booked this seat months ago." I said, feeling suddenly uncomfortable.

The attendant was relentless. "So, you're not going to give your seat to a "PREGNANT WOMAN," she said loudly.

People in the lounge turned and looked at me indignantly.

The attendant's eyes seemed to dare me to contradict her.

"No" I said defiantly. "This is the new F, and half the cabin is empty. She''ll be fine."

She sneered at me again, and I threw down the gauntlet.

"I refuse to change seats," I said flatly. And that was that.

EPILOGUE:

So, the pregnant woman was in 2D - which was across the aisle from me.

She glared at me for a good half hour. Eyes full of pregnant daggers.

This was shaping up to be the worst flight of my life.

Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. I turned to her and apologized for not giving up my seat.

Then I pointed out that no one was sitting in front of her, or to the side. She actually had more personal space than I did.

She finally warmed up, and then we had a very nice chat.

I ended up enjoying my flight, but I will never forgive LX for putting me in such an awkward position.

How would you handle such a situation?
