Moving to Canada and need a cell phone plan

I may be moving to Calgary soon. I currently live in the US.

I'm currently on a friends-and-family type cell phone plan with Sprint, which works well since it allows me to talk to certain people located in the US at no real extra cost.

Is there any plan that allows a similiar friends-and-family plan across the US-Canada border?

I and my significant other will be in Calgary, so we need to be able to talk to each other (and preferrably without any per-minute charges), and make calls within Canada to third parties using our cell phones, but also need to be able to call our families and have them call us, all of whom live in US (again, preferrably without any per-minute charges).

For reference, we currently use absolutely no data. No internet usage, no smart-phone type stuff, etc. Voice only.

I can't seem to locate many--if any---options. Am I missing something?

Note: I created this post instead of threadjacking this thread pertaining to an American working in Canada.
