Summer 1998 in DTW without question. Was trying to get to Berlin with a bunch of friends from high school as part of a tour. Our sf340 flight roa-crw-dtw was bumpy enough on the way up to dtw that it qualifies as the only flight I've seen airsickness bags widely used on.
When we arrived in Detroit (old, gimpy Detroit that was on its very last legs as a viable airport, mind you), we boarded a 757 to Boston only to be stuck in one of the now-famous 6 hour tarmac delays waiting for weather to improve. The pilots finally timed out and we returned to the gate... Northwest handed us a stack of blankets and suggested that the cleaners finish the e concourse first and that it would be a good place to sleep overnight. "yay"
Highlight of that night was, without question, bribing the guys at cinnabon to sell us food and drink at 4am.
Now that I have elite status and a job, the combination of which allow me to stay in a hotel for everything but the most horrendous delay... And now that Tarmac delays longer than 3hours are a thing of the past... My recent experiences pale in comparison to that craptastic day and night back in 98.
