A fair amount with giving away upgrades, double miles and lounge access. I have always been amazed that they made it so easy to get gold for life. It would not surprise em if they would change it to stem the number of golds and plats from this program. Earning it from flying is what makes the most sense.
I definitely hear what you are saying. The only thing I'm saying is that, to me, this seems like more of a miles problem. If they spent that much money, they would likely always have a fairly high mileage balance, meaning that the vast majority of travel would be paid for by miles. So, there would be no usage of double EQMs or upgrades for being platinum. So, while I certainly understand the concern with giving away LT status, you could also argue that there should be concern over the way miles are being given away. Heck Citi is now throwing 75,000 and 100,000 miles for signing up for a new CC.
