Unlike UA, US doesn't even impose StarNet blocking, so the number of seats a US pax is offered on an NZ route is exactly the same an LH or SQ passenger is offered. And it is always equal or better to what a UA victim is offered ... so where does the verdict come from??? Burning Dividend Miles on short domestic coach trips? Even if that were true WGASA?...
Interesting analysis yet not really relevant.
IdeaWorks conducted the study using host airlines miles, no partner redemption was studied. They tried to book 3-6 months ahead, no last minute bookings.@:-) Hence, the US number represents using US miles to redeem on US 3-6 months ahead; SQ number represents using SQ miles to redeem on SQ 3-6 months ahead. They may not fit what you use your miles for, but they are comparable platforms.
Bear in mind that articles were written for general public consumptions. FT represents a tiny fraction of the flying public; average fliers don't know much about alliance partners; most earn/redeem on host airlines.
I guess this study is not relevant to OP either, but it wasn't clear from post #1 that he/she was using partner miles.
