Now a good shopping deal in Bali, on the other hand, is looking for original manufacturer seconds. You can find them in various shops, particularly in the small malls around (like in Kuta). This is where goods that don't meet standards for export get dumped for cheap sale.

I've picked up current season (or NOT YET in stores, still on the boat) merchandise from Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Chicos, White House Black Market, etc. that didn't pass factory inspection.

Most commonly, what I've grabbed has been mis-sized (the bottom of a stack of cut fabric can often run a size or two larger then the rest of the run, for example, and will yield a "small" that is really a "large"). Other times, something like a button will be missing or there will be irregular stitching in a place that doesn't actually show when the garment is worn.

Again, you need to really be aware of garment construction methods and have a good eye for examining fit. These places often don't have large fitting rooms so you need to know what you are looking for... but amazing finds to be had if you can spot a needle in a haystack!
