Hi, this is probably a question for MilesBuss but I am mostly interested in AA anyway. I have found a web site called StudentUniverse that sells cheap tickets (mostly on AA) for student and faculties. My wife, a teach, is planning a trip. StudentUniverse.com found a fare for $275.34 (I can't find any fare code information) where on AA.com the same flights cost $1148.

My questions are:
1) Is StudentUniverse legit? How could they offer tickets so much cheaper?
2) If it is a legit business, I assume it sells some kind of consolidator fare. In that case, can my wife get mileage credit for it?
3) If you have had experience with them, please share.
4) Is there a place on AA.com where I can book similar student/faculty fare and get the 1000 mile booking bonus?

Thanks a lot!

1) Yes, it probably is a legitimate consolidator. AA wouldn't allow a non-legit company to sell tickets for its flights.
2) No mileage credit for consolidator fares.
3) not applicable
4) The lowest fare that you will be able to get on AA.com is an L-class fare, whereas consolidator fares tend to be booked in O, S, or W (or Q if travel originates in Europe). AA ticketing agents do not have access to consolidator fares, nor do they have access to the Priceline/Hotwire booking systems.
