I'm not suggesting that he was pushed out. I'm simply saying that the fallout from the 1993 strike (as well as the fact that his vested stock options had matured) were contributing factors in his decision to step down.
Personally, I have nothing but respect for Crandall. He had his priorities in order for the most part and worked wonders with American. However, that does not change the fact that he was a ruthless b*stard who made many of his moves by stepping on top of others. The intent of my history lesson was simply to explain the long history of mistrust between AMR and APFA in the hope of putting APFA's comments in context.
