Just returned from LAS this week and were asked to do this at landing in LAS and when boarding to leave all the shades were down. It was 40 degrees there and you could see how it helped keep the temperature down. For passenger self-preservation and comfort, probably a good thing to all do, especially if there's a long wait for takeoff.
