Something for everyone to keep in mind, is that this is an
improvement for members residing outside US/Canada/Mexico and Australia who currently receive 0 miles for discount economy on BA.
Of course, I just transferred my AAdvantage address to the US to avoid this problem, so come July 1 it goes back to my real address.
Ever the optimist, I think this is a BA exclusive thing. They are changing their own program so that the UK focus on premium passengers applies across the world. Something AA haven't really ever done.
BA have made some wide changes for mileage redemption as well. We don't know yet how that will be reflected in AAdvantage but it certainly will be. Also watch for minimum mileage guarantees - BA is only giving its own FFers 125 miles for discount economy. Mind you, the rules says something similar for IB, but the AAdvantage computers still give 500 miles minimum.
For me, this means:
* Taking advantages of the many codeshares on BA flights: AY for 100%, QF for 70% and IB for 33% (who ever thought 33% would be seen as a way to earn
more miles?)
* Booking a concorde flight to Barbados in November in the next few days
