Unless Air NZ do it the other way around, the seats on the left-hand side are the A seats (not K as you state). There is no way of knowing, unless you have particular insight, which approach will be taken but it is fair to say that IME the flights will tend to approach from the East. Views are best from the K seats, unless there is cloud in which case you'll see very little until you are past central London.

To the OP - you may find that flights going west are generally more sunny on the A side. If it is shade you want LHR-LAX take a K seat.
