Involuntary change of seat assignment

I was on a flight recently where I was called to the gate agent and told I was being moved to accommodate some passengers. It looked to be government employees of some stature (older gentleman traveling with two "men in black"). I was moved from my seat to a seat 7 row back (row 6 to 13). I'm assuming they were State Dept or something, as the Flight Crew was very very nice to him and accommodating to their needs.

What bothered me was a) no explanation when I asked... b) I was moved to the non-reclining row in front of the exit row which now requires me a trip to the chiropractor to fix my back... c) I have status on the airline, and there looked to be an available seat in FC for courtesy upgrade.

From my point of view, it felt like "We're moving you, too bad, deal with it." I checked with Contract of Carriage, and found nothing in there.

I've been asked to moved before to accommodate a family (when I was traveling by myself), but never involuntarily like this with no explanation.

What's done is done, and I did send a concern to the airline, but I'm trying to find out what happened? Any ideas? Or "just deal with it?"

Thanks in advance
