One can tell how interested the TSA are when your bag zips through the scanner quicker than you can negotiate the WTMD.

I've had a large tube of toothpaste go unnoticed until there is very little toothpaste left in the tube and then had the tube confiscated because the tube itself was larger than 3 oz.
