My father got an email 11 minutes before the 24 hour check-in mark that he was upgraded. My mother was not upgraded. I checked her in 8 minutes after the 24-hour mark and she was #2 on the upgrade list. BTW, there were 5 open F seats on the flight when we split the PNR.

Is it possible that the person who is #1 has the same status and the same fare class and just checked in earlier? As well as my father grabbing the LAST F seat on the flight?

Just seems odd that my mother was passed over and is currently #2...I know it could happen, but that's a lot of things that have to fall that way.

I would just want to ask if it is still wise to split PNR based on the wisdom of being passed over.
