It is still weird that there has been no announcement of the LAX/PHX/SJC/SAN service changes by AA. This could simply be an attempt to downplay bad news... but on the other hand, AA has been dutifully posting press releases about all their other mainline-to-Eagle downgrades on their web site. So, since these West Coast changes STILL have not been announced (even though they are in the schedule), it leads me to think that there might be another aspect to these service cuts that has not been finalized yet... what I'm thinking is that maybe there WILL be a codeshare of some sort to provide AA with a nominal connection from PHX to the West Coast.
If and when AA goes ahead and announces the discontinuation of LAX-PHX on their web site, and if there is no mention of any replacement alternatives at that time, then I will have to accept the fact that AA is just going to neglect this gap in their network (for the time being anyway).
I do worry a lot about AA's viability on the West Coast (I'm an SJC based flyer after all), but I'd like NOT to think that AMR management has sunk to a low of true negligence just yet. I think they MUST be aware that creating unmanageable gaps in their West Coast net would just be playing into UA's hands, at a time when they should be seizing every opportunity to damage UA.
