Maybe stopover and completing an outbound flight (assuming multiple sectors) are two different things.

For instance, if I fly out on a Mon to RUH then I am getting my miles credited on Tue before I actually fly back on Thu when I "complete" the journey.

I do this every week....

But you may be right with stopover in the sense that they changed it recently.
