Has anyone visited Post Ranch Inn recently that can provide feedback? I have read old threads on flyertalk and various reviews off-site, and more recent experiences seem mixed. It appears as though people either love it (5 stars, exuberant praise) or are very disappointed (with profuse warnings). There doesn't seem to be many middle of the road opinions (i.e. "we liked it, but keep this in mind"). The polar opposite impressions have me a bit concerned.

We thought about reserving a treehouse for one night to enjoy the fabulous vistas on an upcoming trip, but are hesitant with some commentary about the rooms looking tired/worn, some housekeeping issues, and changes in their amenities (transportation from airport is no longer offered, not sure about the convertible use for Hwy 1). I understand they offer specials for return guests, so I question if it is worth it to get "in the system" for the future. That said, if they are resting on their former reputation and things are sliding, then we won't want to come back anyway.

My other option is to stay an extra night south on Highway 1 (Cass House Inn - a much smaller property where we will be the first night) or drive all the way up to San Francisco or Palo Alto and stay at either city's Four Seasons hotel.

Any recent CA travelers with words of wisdom?
