But, just remember your EQM counter resets at the beginning of the year. So you will have to fly at least 25,000 EQMs from Jan. 1 to Feb 28 to qualify for Silver.

rakdance said EQM, not FEQM. EQMs expire on Dec 31. FEQMs don't expire.
rakdance is pointing out that if you don't re-qualify for at least Silver in 2010, then in Jan thru Feb 2011, you'll have to earn 25000 EQMs (less your FEQM balance, if you choose to use them) or lose elite status. For example, if you have 8000 FEQMs, you will have to earn 17000 EQMs in Jan thru Feb 2011 (and burn those FEQMs) to remain elite from Mar 1 onward.
