BMI miles cost just under two cents. The cash and miles option though lets you put up cash for half the miles and only cost about 1 cent per mile. So really you are paying about 1.5 cent per mile.
A C ticket US-Europe 1 runs about $1075 and US-Europe 2 about $1125. These tickets cost 100K miles with just about anybody else. So even adding in BMI fuel charges you are at about $1400 for a C ticket or 1.4 cents per mile. Also BMI has free stopovers and one way awards so more flexibility than US carriers. Also you can create a family account and move miles as needed.
IMO, anybody valuing miles at 1.5 cents or higher should be buying the max allotment of BMI miles per year for them, spouse and children.
You are absolutely right, despite the objections. Thats why I in addition to almost 2MM US has bought max BMI on 4 accts. When they had the additional 20% promo (which was repeated) of course
BMI for longhaul C and intraeurope Y. US for longhaul F. Nice split of the market^
