I would not call that part of Potts Point (or any part) a cross between Park Avenue and Times Square. Chelsea and Times Square may be.

To the OP if you are planning to only be in Sydney for two nights then I would recommend the Menzies for convenience, safety and price. You can get the Menzies for around AUD150 at the moment. In the CBD you can take the CBD Shuttle for free and then its only a short walk to Circular Quay and Opera House.
