Do you want to be in Durban proper, or can you stay somewhere outside town? If you have a car (which you should), I highly recommend Teremok Lodge in Umhlanga Rocks, about 25 minutes north of the city of Durban (a bit longer at morning rush hour). I stayed there the last time I was in Durban (on business)--it is an upscale B&B/inn, quite suitable for business travelers. The breakfast offering was truly spectacular, decor really creative, rooms huge and comfortable. The beachside location of Umhlanga Rocks is a lot more congenial than Durban itself (which can be on the scruffy side in spots). I've never bothered with any of the major chains in Durban, as they all seem to be middling properties, whereas you can do a lot better with high-end smaller places.
