By "cycles" AA doesn't mean that it's going to take the credit card that long, it means that it's going to hold on to your money and slowly process your refund, maybe in 30-60 days.
If you want to free up the cash, you can always call your credit card company and ask them to put a hold on that amount, as you are expecting a refund; similar to a billing dispute. They'll probably do it.
