Guys - I've made a booboo of circumstance. Am meeting some people in BA 1/3/11. Since I'm in MIA 12/30 decided to go straight to BA instead of home first. Have since seen that BA is not a place for a visitor on New Years EVE, but I've decided to stick it out. Any suggestions on:
A: how to occupy myself for 3 nights on my own, including NYE when everything is closed
B: good places to get some sun as I'll be having a summer vacation during my winter in NYC

We will be in Rio for NYE and then coming to BA for a couple days, leaving back to NYC on Jan 8.
Have you considered renting an apartment for the week? Last year we did that and it was really nice to have a big place right in Palermo Soho. We used apartmentsba.com and were more than satisfied.
As for beach, I hear Punta Del Esta, Uruguay is the place to go. We may swing down on our way to Rio, but not 100% sold. Have heard mixed reviews.
Have you thought about doing Iguazu falls for a couple days?
