Hi there. I am an American living in Minnesota. I have been to Durban many times back to 1980. I was just there in May of this year. I have also been there every May for the past five years.

I have seen many hotels in Durban and stayed in a few. In my opinion, the best hotel is the Oyster Box about 20 minutes north of town and near to the new airport.

If you really want to be in a clean/well maintained city hotel the the Hilton ICC is good but it is a five long blocks and an unsafe walk from the beach. If you want the best hotel on the beach in the city proper then the Protea Edward is good for that purpose.
