In my experience over the past few years, it depends on the property... almost every Fairfield Inn + Springhill Suites (if not all... i don't recall) gives free amenities. 90% of the courtyards do, but a few have made me buy from their store. As for full service Marriotts, I think it's more like 80%. Much like the Courtyards, they often would prefer to sell me a razor and shaving cream at their store.
