While I have some gripes about QF at times (such as charging their platinum frequent flyers for exit row) I wouldn't go so far to compare them to Ryanair. They do not even have a semi-amusing (in a somewhat offensive way, or otherwise) boss!

On a serious note, LH (as in Lufthansa) charges quite a lot for excess baggage as well. It's more the case of BA being very generous with it.
