It should be pretty easy to find a non-AC Pacific reward itinerary from YVR to BKK. A UA flight to SEA, SFO or LAX and then numerous options from there to HKG, ICN, NRT, or PEK and then onto BKK.

Use the ANA tool (with the greasemonkey script or workaround if you don't have the miles) and matrix2.itasoftware.com. Good call on avoiding AC, you'll save yourself some serious cash that can better go towards spoiling yourselves some more on your trip.
