You are already past security so that is not the problem. The problem is this: If you stuff your laptop bag full of Hummus (you can get roughly 67 tubes in the average laptop bag) when the aircraft gets to altitude the pressure differential can cause a catastrophic failure of the Hummus Tube. This is NOT a pretty sight. The entire overhead bin will be covered and filled with Hummus. That said, if you have lots of crackers then you can have a party in First class utilizing the overhead bin as a Hummus serving dish. The only issue you will have is from the folks from seats 1 A/C/D who are sharing your overhead. If they like Hummus then it will be no issue at all. If not, well they may be bummed.
I usually tape the cheese and hummus to my body ala Midnight Express. I use the laptop bag for the bladder full of Vodka, and of course, BISCOFFS! Lots of BISCOFFs!
