Fair enough, maybe I've been lucky but in 5 or 6 yrs of easily earning platinum I've never "lost" an upgrade simply by revising my arrival date (unless the core stay date changes, obviously). As for "showing them", if they reserve the right to giveth and taketh away, no reason I can't so the same. I simply won't be willing to spend on food, beverages, et al after losing an upgrade and having to send multiple emails just trying to sort out an airport transfer.
They didn't give and take away anything. The fact that you can see the upgrade in the system doesn't mean squat. It just means that they have tentatively booked you into a specific room. They can just as easily move you into another room as they are prepping. The only upgrade which is guaranteed would be one where you got a email notifying you of the upgrade before arrival like the WGS sends out.
