Were I ever a prospective deportee, I would say something along the lines of what I tell my employers and clients: "When I want to go somewhere, I pay for it. When you want me to go somewhere, you pay for it."

Wow. I hope that the US isn't paying for the removal expense of deportees. Doesn't that seem like something the deportee should be paying?
I guess most countries need to and do pay for the deportation since the deportees are usually in a state when they cannot afford it or claim not to be able to afford it..
