hmmm.. for train schedules the below link by farci of db is among the best.
for purchasing the tickets wht I normally do is go to the originating countries train website and buy the tickets.. sometimes its not possible ( eg.. trenitalia for many US based CC'S) but mostly it works and many times if u buy the tickets atleast 7-15 days earlier u get decent discounts..
IMHO, point to point tickets in Europe are significantly cheaper than EU rail passes if planned ahead ..
