Attempting to Upgrade LAX-LHR (AA136)
I've been attempting to obtain on upgrade to C on AA136 (for Saturday) for over the last month.
When the request was first made there was no C availability so I was put on the waiting list. I called weekly, and constantly checked Galileo (like a good FTer) to see if the upgrade had cleared.
Yesturday I spoke with AA and was told two interesting things:
i. my status (PLAT) has nothing to do with where I stand on the current upgrade waiting-list. I was told the only thing that matters on the current waiting-list is the date that the upgrade was request.
ii. if the upgrade doesn't clear by the flight date, the list will be restarted at LAX (which I already knew). Again, however, I was told my status would play no role on where I stand on this list.
Although I found these two statements to be hard to believe (what's the purpose of status then?) I can accept them. I'm not entitled to an upgrade, so AA can make their rules as they deem fit.
As of this morning there were still plenty of seats available in C. Sometime today, however, 9 of those seats were taken (leaving just a few seats remaining).
I found it very hard to believe that 9 Business Class tickets were sold today over the course of a few hours. So, I assumed that AA must have made some C inventory available for upgraders.
When I called AA however, I found that I was still on the waitlist. Then I checked Galileo and saw that still no C inventory exists.
So, what am I to make of all this? How likely is it that 9 people purchased business tickets today, or am I missing something?
Please enlighten me!
