strange incident with priority tagging - any ideas?

Had something wierd happen on a flight last month.

There were 5 of us flying CBR to CNS return in Business - revenue, not award. On the outward legs no problems luggage (4 pieces) was tagged business class and came out rapidly.

Coming back the luggage was priority tagged, not business (dont know why - maybe no business tags? - it was very busy in Cairns that day).

When the 4 bags came out - almost the last ones to appear, the orange priority tags had been very neatly trimmed off so they didn't show on all 4 bags. I've sometimes had tags mangled or torn, but these had been very neatly cut off.

Any ideas? I am not particularly fussed, as we had excellent flights both ways - great staff, nice food and we enjoyed the business lounges. However it has me intrigued.

I have come up with 2 explanations.

1. We had silver tags on the luggage, so someone decided we weren't entitled to priority tagging at a later stage.

2. Someone seriously hates people from Canberra.
