Why is DL Rebooking Potential Misconnects Before They Happen
Okay, so for the third time in as many months I have fallen into misconnect purgatory.
Yesterday I flew BOS-JFK-SFO. BIS-JFK leg was delayed due to weather and ATC controls into JFK. There was a likelihood that I was going to misconnect in JFK. Agent in BOS backed me up on a later flight out of JFK but said I still has my seat on original JFK-SFO flight.
Arrive at JFK with 20 min to make my flight. Luckily we pull up at the gate next to my flight and I'm in row 2. Get to connecting gate. They are still boarding. Hand my boarding pass to agent only to find out my seat had been given away. Agent was able to put me back on the flight and in the original seat I was assigned.
Apparently, a kerfuffle ensued when the pax who was given my seat was sent back to Y from BE. I missed that good time.
I get that DL is trying to be helpful and anticipatory, but this is getting out of hand. They really should not be giving up seats unless you are within the 15 min cancellation window. They are creating more work for their GAs who have to deal with the fury.
