Not sure about advance res. for B&B/motel however usually plenty of same day or day prior availability for cruise/heli tour etc. Note that it is NZ school holidays from 24 Sep - 11 Oct so may be busier than usual.

Some great holiday homes on here at very reasonable rates, although may be better suited for multiple night stays?
