I am in agreement with post 14.
I have flown Lufthansa and Star Alliance for 10 years and I have never had to pay for seat reservations in Business or First. I have had gold status with LH for 6 years, but seats can be reserved in advance in C and F without status, and my tickets are purchased by myself for leisure travel.
Because of loss of BMI flights from Durham/Teeeside I am transferring to BA flights from NCL. Paying for my on fare it is a considerable put-off to have to pay for advanced seat reservations.
I was going to keep my flying with BA for a couple of years, until I receive status, but looking at KLM fares from MME via AMS, with seat reservations, for a similar price, makes me review my travel plans.
I know of several people whose thoughts incline to the same conclusion, that BA is ripping people off, who have paid an expensive fare in premium cabins, for seat reservations.
LH did reserve certain rows seats for status passengers, but did no penalise those who pay there own fare and had no status.
