If asked, just tell the truth. When the CBP officer asks you why you would do something so silly, tell them your boss is a jerk.
And look for another job.
I don't blame them though - the leisure flights are non-refundable so they would be paying half of that ticket cost that plus the cost of the ticket back home from IAH. This way I get more miles for crossing the Atlantic twice - so there's a slight upside to the madness.
