I fly this route (EWR-MAN) several times a year and overbooking is often a problem in the peak season, never in the off season. Have been Op-Upped twice this summer already and in the winter often have a whole row of economy to myself.

I do agree that a bigger plane would be nice but seems to work well for some (me)
