With both, its all about the revenue class on the ticket.
Sounds like the opposite of me. My last several United flights, including MSP-ORD/ORD-MSP, have been a non-revs dream come true - more often than not, I've had more NRSAs up front with me than other passengers.
MSP-ORD is feast or famine - seems like it's always NRSA in the front on UA, or there are Globals sitting in Y.
