It may be the best use of miles but if you have millions of miles then straight redemptions may be better as they will often save GBP 500+ from the booking. However you will get through them quicker.
E.g. straight redemption to USA costs 100k miles + GBP 300 or so, MFU costs 25k miles + GBP 800 or so (but you get 10-15k miles back).
