Card issuers are very willing to give business cards to "sole proprietors" of "consulting" businesses. They are great for bonuses. They are also great for hiding debt, as the majority of small business cards don't report to your personal credit report (Discover, State Farm Bank and Nationwide Bank are three that do).

Just be careful if you decide to make regular use of these cards. Consumer lending protection legislation doesn't apply to business cards. If you get into financial trouble, you can't rely on any consumer lending legislation to protect you.

In some cases, things like car insurance protection only apply if you are using the card for "business". If you don't really have a business, and have a claim, then you may be out in the cold.
