You're right, you don't have a choice . You can only use the departures in 2E, specifically the one in the boarding pier your flight to ATL will leave from, so either the one in the main boarding pier (that's the one where you need to go one level down) or the one in satellite S3.

As to your incoming flight, if you are arriving from MUC on AF, you should be arriving in 2D. I would recommend using the airside bus, with passport control in 2D before boarding the bus.

If you arrive on KL, that is from MUC via AMS, you should be arriving in 2F, and you should just walk over to 2E. If your incoming flight is late and you are going through passport control in 2E, pick the correct lane: there are green, yellow and orange lanes, depending on the time remaining before your flight leaves. Eligible flights for the orange and yellow lanes are displayed on screens.
