After reading all the thoughts and opinions in this thread, the bottom line is that if everyone would turn off their PED at the requested time, nothing else would need to be said. As Virgo Rising so eloquently explained, we as FAs don't really care what you have on, but any item that has an on and off switch, we need it off to close the forward door, for take-off and for landing...period. It's not a difficult concept! But as you all know because you fly as much as we do, some folks just don't feel it's necessary to listen to instructions. They're not listening to instructions because they're on their phone, typing on their computer, etc.
Leads me to another pet peeve, I'm trying to ask a passenger what they'd like to drink, but many times I'm ignored because you're engrossed in your Ipod, computer, kindle, etc. I'll give you a couple of chances...only to be met with a blank stare...or when I move to the next person, I'm accused of skipping you. When I put a cocktail napkin and a snack on your tray table, what do you think I'm asking??
Happy flying and safe travels!
