I am a very infrequent Amtrak rider and recently missed an evening Northeast Regional train (#169) from Boston's South Station to New York after printing my ticket. I went to an agent and the next regional train wasn't for a couple hours so I walked to the bus gates and bought a ticket on the horrific but reasonably fast Greyhound bus. The Amtrak agent said I could use the ticket I had printed on any other Northeast Regional #169 for the next year and although that didn't seem right to me, I rushed to go catch a bus.
So what do you guys say? Can I just board the Northeast Regional #169 on my next trip to New York (probably not until October) using the ticket I printed for a train in August or would the conductor not honor it? I don't want to get kicked off the train at Back Bay!
