Holding your phone up to a speaker while getting a call or text message is the easiest way to see they can cause interference. While I don't think there are any cases of an airliner being brought down, there is a chance of it. "Chance" being something like 1 in a billion odds which is near impossible to replicate. Since it's such an easy thing to do, flick a switch, why would you not? Seems like an odd thing to rebel against.
Perhaps I misunderstood you. It read to me as if you thought I was "rebelling against" the PED off rule.
I don't like it. No question. Not the same as rebelling against it.
As for your "proof" no one is saying that PEDs don't emit signals/radiation etc.
I just think it is too great a leap to compare a poorly shielded consumer speaker to aviation instrumentation.
