I have the perfect solution. There should only be 3 elite flyers per year, top net miles earns SE, 2nd gets E and 3rd gets P. Think of the prestige status will have now. No lineups for priority boarding or the lounges.
Everyone who has status wants to limit status to include exactly the amount of flying they do, but exclude the maximum number of other people.
I'm happy with it at 35k.

Reverse of that argument applies as well, as in those who barely get by the status requirement, would want to keep it where it is.
Realistically 35K is in fact the lowest *G requirement in the alliance, although there are others in *A with slightly higher requirements spread over two years in a way that it would take less miles per year to get *G on them.
